Myth 1: an easy job to do
You don't necessarily need to be a cleaning pro or hold a specific diploma to become a commercial cleaner. You do, however, need to be very hard-working and ready to carry out cleaning tasks that require good physical fitness.
So this is far from being an easy job. Stripping, waxing, polishing and steam cleaning are examples of tasks (not as easy as they sound) performed by these workers every day. Doing these tasks well requires solid knowledge of the machinery, products and tools used, as well as practice. It's not for nothing that we take the time to train our new hires at Campus Roy.
An easy job to do? FALSE. The commercial cleaner profession is quite demanding, requiring great physical fitness and good stamina!
Myth 2: a job where it's hard to thrive
As well as being essential to our society, this job has a positive impact on the lives of the people who use a cleaned space, offering them a better quality of life. Making an environment clean is always rewarding, whether it's for ourselves or for others!
Commercial cleaners make sure every day that each of us can live in a clean, healthy environment, helping prevent various forms of contamination and pollution. That's quite respectable, wouldn't you say?
A job where it's hard to thrive? FALSE. Even though some tasks aren't the most glamorous, it's easy to thrive in this work when it comes with a sense of accomplishment and a clear understanding of our contribution to a better world.
Myth 3: a short-term filler job
Some people think that those who do this job are just waiting to find "something better" or that they have no other choice. Think again! Being a commercial cleaner is a career in its own right, with many opportunities for advancement. It's also a very stable job, since cleaning simply never stops!
A short-term filler job? FALSE. Many workers build careers in commercial cleaning and get the chance to grow within this profession.
Myth 4: a poorly paid job
We often hear that the commercial cleaner job is poorly paid. At Roy., wages are set by a Quebec decree that establishes the hourly rate at $19.74 or $19.97, depending on the tasks performed. We place tremendous value on our people's work and want their pay to reflect the level of effort and the quality of the work they deliver every day.
