Mario Barabé, VP of Production at Roy. and an employee for 24 years, is responsible for the Carboneutre program. We met with this environment and sustainability enthusiast to demystify this new certification.

First commercial cleaning organization to be Carboneutre certified in Quebec
The green shift began in 2003, when Roy. became the first commercial cleaning organization in Quebec to switch all of its chemical cleaning products for eco-friendly, certified sustainable ones.
A forward-thinking initiative that set the tone for the sustainable and environmentally friendly programs rolled out afterward: reducing plastic waste through the purchase of large-format concentrated products, greenhouse gas management, a gradual shift of the vehicle fleet to electric cars, prioritizing local suppliers, and more.
Today, we're taking things one step further, as Roy. reaches a new milestone by becoming the first company in its industry in Quebec to obtain the Carboneutre Certification!
The best part is, this is just the beginning!

What is the Carboneutre Certification?
The Carboneutre Certification confirms that Roy. has taken stock of the direct and indirect emissions generated by its activities and offsets them by planting trees. Decarbonizing Roy.'s activities is possible thanks to the certification program developed by the engineering consulting firm LCL Environnement.
"This certification is a new way to reduce our carbon footprint through concrete action. It gives us a complete picture of our impact as a company and allows us to put internal measures in place that will reduce our carbon footprint once and for all."
For Mario, the ultimate goal isn't to rest on our laurels after earning this certification, but rather to concretely reduce the organization's direct emissions in order to offset less and less of them, year after year. 🌳
"In 2022, 1,850 trees were planted to offset the greenhouse gas emissions produced by Roy. In 2023, we want to develop even more responsible business practices so we can plant fewer trees and reduce our carbon footprint."
How does the certification process work?
"Partnering with LCL Environnement greatly simplified and sped up the process of becoming carbon neutral."
- A calculation of Roy.'s direct and indirect CO2 emissions was carried out. Over the course of 1 year, LCL Environnement conducted an inventory of our direct and indirect CO2 emissions.
- Then, in order to offset our emissions, a verified organization certified under ISO-14064 planted the number of trees needed to offset our carbon footprint.
- The final step: Roy. obtaining the Carboneutre Certification from LCL Environnement! 🎊
Why does it matter for Roy.?
